Good Day, (looking for more discussions here) well I'm in Matt.25 (Matt.25:1-13), the parable about the 10 virgins and those with & without oil. I relate the oil to the Holy Spirit (Many say its strictly Grace, and i meet someone who claims its strictly wisdom, I think those to relate to the Holy Spirit). In this parable its discussing the return of Messiah and the need of some found lacking to have oil. In vs.9 it says: "But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that *sell (G#4453), and *buy (G#59) for yourselves." (after they asked those with oil for oil). I am interested in discussions pertaining to this verse and any other scriptures you all may find relative.

I dont consider The Holy Spirit as something to make profit off of (or to "buy" & or "sell" in the modern concept of the word). Looking for context of this usage.

I also looked for other areas of scripture where it mentions oil for sale. I came to 2 Kings 4:7 (2 Kings 4:1-37 very interesting portion of scripture) "Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest." Anyway, I'm just curious as to why the terminology of "sell" and "buy" oil is present in Matt.25 when (if) its relative to the Holy Spirit. Is it that out of faith we receive the oil (in a form of exchange) and if so why couldnt those with oil (the spirit) help them (even though it says they had but enough for themselves but rather go to them that "sell" oil). just thinking there may be some nuggets here and i only hope that this original post is formulated enough to start a discussion.

Matt.25:1-13

1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Just a (personal) side note:Also in the (KJV) Companion Bible, Bullinger makes a point to highlight "*Not so" (Matt.25:9) when its in italics (not present in the original texts)... with the Ellipsis supplied [we must refuse], "least there be *not enough" / "not"- Bullinger: -"all the texts read" (in the Greek) "ou meAppendix 105. Just updating with my (current) conclusion (on The Parable):
God's people (Wise virgins/ born of the Spirit) were telling the others (foolish virgins/ believers) That they need to go to "ho/he/to" (The One) who supplies (the Holy Spirit/Wisdom/ Grace) and "buy" from Him. That we cant supply people with the Holy Spirit but rather man has to come to GOD for the oil. We exchange are bodies, failures, for his victories (are Born again) and thus blessed with the Holy Spirit. In the Last days (just before the coming of Messiah) those not in covenant (many) will recognize that their are some in covenant that fear not the tribulation (but are comforted even in the midst of tribulation) and they carnally will seek them (these people with oil) for assurance when assurance is in a ongoing relationship with Yah.
I think I was just looking to highlight the wrong words. lets look at a portion again:
"but go ye rather to them that sell" (KJV)
"butG1161 goG4198 ye ratherG3123 toG4314 them that sell,G4453" (kjv with strong's)
* " δεG1161 CONJ μαλλονG3123 ADV προςG4314 PREP τους *G3588 T-APM πωλουνταςG4453 (Textus Receptus Greek with the strong's)
"Them" (kjv) here is actually strong's ***#
3588 which means- The masculine, feminine (second) and neuter (third) forms, in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom): - the, this, that, one, he, she, it, .. etc..(they)
So the elect werent telling these foolish virgins (believers) to go to man who sells but to The One who supplies the Holy Spirit (wisdom/ Grace) ...
So the foolish once had oil (truth, were in covenant, grace, wisdom,..) yet as they slumbered they awoke to find that they were lacking. It never said they had been born again. They were now seeking what they didnt have (they werent born again/ in covenant)  yet had fallen away during the great apostasy. One can blaspheme the Holy Spirit but to do so is to fall into Apostasy. The Light of the foolish virgins went OUT. They had no works (in the Spirit) Faith without works is Dead. They were virgins in the sense that they werent in idolatry (Spiritual fornication and adultery) but they were not One with Yah either (Born Again), They were not in covenant (they were rejected Matt.25:10-12). Devils Believe (in one G-D) and acknowledge Christ but their fruits are not of the Holy Spirit.
Feel free to give any feedback. Glory be to Yah

71 "Shem-Tob = (Matt.25:9) "Go now to those who sell and buy for yourselves because there is not enough oil for us and you."

And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you notWatch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. / (Live in the covenant Today)

Great discussion. This is how I understand the parable of the Ten Virgins--

Five wise virgins ( Five represents Divine Grace) They had oil. Olive oil is used for anointing or consecrating. The bridegroom knew these five virgins because they had oil and participated in the wedding. This, to me, correlates with The Marriage Supper of The Lamb in Rev 19:7-9. His "wife hath made herself ready."

Five foolish virgins had lamps-- but no oil (anointing or consecration) Their lamps had gone out- they ran out of oil.

This takes me to the commandment of God in Exodus 27:20-21

And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring (H3947- to take, buy, carry away) thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.

In the tabernacle of the congregation without the vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron, and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the Lord: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.

I just wanted to add that in relation to the two witnesses mentioned in the Word we are told they are two olive tree (anointed individuals) and two menorahs (candlesticks/ lampstands depending on translation). That G-d's anointed ones are a source of oil! Throughout the Word we were given prophets, Israel, Messiah,... as instruments of the Spirit of truth. I relate this to the verse to documented Denise! :

"Exodus 27:20-21

And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring (H3947- to take, buy, carry away) thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always."
