Edom (#123) are the descendants of Esau (* Gen.36:1)

Eze.38 addresses the desendants of Esau.

¹And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

 ²Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him. (Eze.39:1)

"chief" as used here in the Hebrew is:  rô'sh which was changed to (Roush /roosh) in the vulgate and later changed to Russ, and today relates to russia. Interestingly enough, the location of ancient Meshech of Edom is almost directly identical to modern day Moscow (russia).

Esau disreguarded his inheritance (blessings) for nothing more than earthly bread and pottage (Gen.25:31-34). This was symbolic of his rebellion against The God of Abraham. (Mal.1:3) 

We know that to say "Israel" is to mention a relationship with The LORD. The priority placed on The Spiritual context: Gal.3:24-29/ Matt.3:9/ Rom.2:29/ Deut. 6:4-5....

Jacob- Israel/ Esau- Russia

Rebekah haveing two nations in her womb, these two have had a history of conflict. Esau's descendants relating to Edom/ Russia (Gen.32:3), Russia has been known to conflict against THe Faith and freedom as well as the nations in which major waves of the tribes of Israel have either settled in or founded (example:Israel, Britain, Usa, Canada, Australia,....)

Russia is mentioned as a dark force in the battle of Gog and Magog, and also as a world power (beast) in the last days that contribute to setting up the one world system.

Remain watchful of the power structure and policies of Russia. (there are some real good people /believers/ in russia this in no way is to encourage hate towards them). God is still in charge!

Hamongog means the valley of the congregation of gog. This is to be a major front line of this army of darkness that shall come against Israel.  It refers back to Edom as the people and nation but its not a must that this valley be in Russia but rather that this location is where they gather with the other nations listed in the battle of Gog and Magog.

(There are many believers (Christians) in the area of Russia this isnt stereotyping all "Russians" as the enemies of God's people for some of them are God's people like individuals scattered internationally. Yet this does speak of the fruits of the nation (government) and the peoples general representation in this battle (Gog and Magog).)

There are some who claim to be Jews who Wrongly say "Christians or Christianity are Edomites" but that's based in ignorance of their own writings in comparison to who Christians are and what Christianity is. However to those who think Catholic is Christian the argument would stand IMHO. A few of their writings relate the attributes of Rome to those of Esau pointing a finger at ROME -the Catholic "Church" (RCC) or even calling Rome Edom when historically and biblically we Know the territory of Edom was Russia. I tend to agree they carry some bad attributes like unto Esau disregarding his birth right.  Not sure I recall all the writings of this sort but will try to document them here as I come back across them ..[Zohar, Bereshit 1:146b] ,“Gate of Redemption” (byNachmanides),[The Sages of the Targum] thus explained that Rome is in Grecian Italy and that many of the Edomite people are contained therein. Hence, [Rome] is called “O daughter of Edom,” (Lament. 4:22)....
